Commentary: Although Green Herons are normally difficult birds to approach, once in a while one is found that is more tolerant. This bird is a regular at a heavily used urban park, so it is used to lots of people and activity. By working slowly on my knees and butt, behind my lowered tripod, I was able to get as close as twelve feet from this bird for a whole series of shots. When the heron yawned like this, I knew it would be a good image. This image was made within a half mile of this one, and could be the same bird.
