Birds in Nature - images of wild birds by Richard Ditch

Common Raven (Corvus corax)
Place: Grand Canyon, AZ, USA
Date: March 1996
Equipment: Nikon 8008, Nikkor 75-300/5.6 AF
Film: Fujichrome Sensia 100 exposed normally, no filters
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, natural light, no fill
Scan: Minolta Dimage, 85% of frame

Commentary: I think of this as my ultimate environmental bird portrait, where the habitat is as important as the bird. I used a 75-300 zoom and pulled back a bit to include the great view. I like the raven "surveying his domain." The depth of field covers the raven but leaves the Grand Canyon a bit out of focus; appropriate as I wanted the raven to take precedence over the canyon.
