ARCHAEOLOGISTS OF THE IMPOSSIBLE

It arrived on the scene in early 1999. The Warren Ellis/John Cassaday/Laura Martin (formerly DePuy) collaboration was something different. Appearing first as an 8-page backup story in two other Wildstorm titles, it was a strange debut: we were introduced with very little exposition to a white-haired man in a white suit, a dark-haired woman in dark leather, and a smirking Gen-X type. Calling themselves mystery archaeologists, they extract from a retired military general a bizarre story that bears more than a passing resemblance to the origin of Marvel Comics' "Incredible Hulk." Soon we're looking into a 5-mile deep pit at the skeletal remains of a long-dead monster.

What has followed, each issue, is another fantastic adventure, many of which pay homage to past heroes and stories from comic books, pulp novels, movies, and more. This site is a reference, and companion piece, to the series.

The Series:
What has happened thus far? And what does it all mean?
The Characters:
Just who are these people, anyway? What's The Drummer's real name?
The Creators:
How can I find out more about these folks? Do any of them have their own web sites?
The Fourth Man:
Planetary's financial backing is provided by a mysterious fourth individual. Who is he...or she?

I've been a comic book fan for 20 years. Planetary is one I really enjoy. I hope this site makes that clear. Feedback welcome! Please drop me a line.
