Day 172, 1269.5 hours

The fuel and oil lines are now permanently installed with fire sleeve.  This is a heat-resistant covering (red in the picture) that protects against chafing and insulates the lines from flame in the event of a engine compartment fire..

Work was delayed this session because of the need to perform a mandatory modification (AD) applicable to Lycoming engines of this type.  A bolt had to be changed inside the engine.  Ugh!

This is the linkage for the mail landing gear, along with vent lines for the fuel system.  The silver box is the control computer and power supply for the wingtip strobe lights.

Note the two small switches attached to the main gear linkage (arrows).  These tell the gear system when the main gear is up, down and in transit

Day 177, 1300 hours

After completing the engine installation, attention turned to the forward side of the firewall.  In this picture you can seen some of the plumbing and wiring on the firewall through the door of the aircraft.

The nose compartment has been opened to begin the wiring there.  All of the wires coming from  the back are in this compartment now, ready to be connected to the battery, control modules, panel, and switches.

Day 179, 1317 hours

Fiberglass panels have been made to finish off the interior.  These will be upholstered, and will cover the gear mechanism and firewall.

The panels will be held in place with Velcro and easily removable.  In the event of a gear malfunction, the panels can be removed in flight for access to the main gear mechanism.
