March 12, 2002 Day 116, 866 hours Many parts of the aircraft must be custom made. This series of pictures shows the fabrication of the air intake for the engine (from the NACA scoop to the fuel servo). First, an expanding foam (amazing stuff!) is poured into a paper cylinder. When it hardens, it is shaped and attached to the engine plenum. Then fiberglass cloth is applied to form the duct.. |

March 13, 2002 Day 117, 874 hours This shows the appearance the next day, after the fiberglass lay-up has cured. The foam has been removed and the part has been trimmed and sanded. |

March 13, 2002 Day 117, 878 hours An aluminum flange is constructed to attach the other end of the duct to the engine. The round part of the flange was purchased from an aircraft parts supply house, the rest had to be made to fit the engine fuel servo. |
