Song of the Loon was first published in 1966 by Greenleaf Classics of San Diego, California. In 1970, a movie was produced from the novel by Sawyer Productions. In 1982, a German translation was published in Hamburg titled Rote Männer auf Grünnen Matten.

In 2005, Song of the Loon was republished by Arsenal Pulp Press of Vancouver, Cananda.
