A site dedicated to the work of Richard Amory and Gay literature
of the 1960s and 1970s.
Richard Amory wrote eight novels in the 1960s and 1970s: Song of the
Loon, Song of Aaron, Listen, the Loon Sings, Longhorn Drive, Frost, A Handsome
Young Man with Class, Naked on Main Street, and Willow Song.
Song of the Loon, published in 1966, was among the first queer
novels to depict a positive and affirming portrayal of gay life. David Bergen, author of The Queer Sixties, calls Song
of the Loon "the most popular and important book of gay erotica in the sixties." (p. 29) Previous to Song
of the Loon, the love between men was usually depicted as tortured and doomed to end in tragedy.
Richard Amory also wrote articles on gay literature and reviews
of novels. This website reproduces these articles.
