I get a lot of questions as whether or not I know where Desic (Ira) Hayes CS 2 is hiding? The answer of course is no, but it always brings to mind the time when Denny asked me for  the up coming weekend off, to go see a basketball game in L A.  Knowing that he had the duty, I replied with an emphatic NO.  I told him that wanting to see a ball game was a damn lame excuse for wanting out of duty.  He then explained to me that Houston and UCLA were playing and that his brother played for Houston and that it would be a good opportunity to see him.
    I said "who is your brother?" to which he replied "Elvin Hayes". To which I replied "bullshit", Elvin Hayes is crowding the shit out of 7 feet tall and your about 5-7, ain't no way he's your brother".  That's when Denny 'splained it to me'.  His Daddy was a sawed off little sucker about pygmy size and his Mother was 7 feet tall.  Elvin took after Mom, and Denny took after Dad. 
After the explanation, I was convinced.  He got his weekend off.
    About 3 or 4 years later at a Civic recognition luncheon at the Grant Hotel that I was honored be at as Flot Ones enlisted rep. In met Elvin Hayes who was playing with the San Diego Rockets.
I asked him how Denny was.  With his reply of "you know Denny"? the story was confirmed.
