                   first President to be killed while in office, and then James Garfield.

BACKGROUND :   (By the way, the assassination connection?  Theodore Rex Roosevelt, "Teddy", was the Vice President who became President after the 3rd assassination of a U.S. President.)

On Sept. 6,  1901-  President William McKinley was shot while attending the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, NY.

On September14, 1901-   At age 42, Roosevelt becomes the 26th President of the
                             United States and is sworn into office at about 3:15 p.m. at
                             the Ansley Wilcox Mansion, 641 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo,
                             the youngest man ever to become President (John F. Kennedy
                             was the youngest man ever elected to that office at the age
                             of 43).

On October 14, 1912, he was shot while going to make a speech and survived.  He did not seek medical attention until after making the 90 minute speech.    (The above information from the "Time Line" of the  Theodore Roosevelt Organization web site.)
