  This is the week that was in matters musical...1970, Jim Morrison

is dragged off the stage by bandmate Ray Manzarek at a concert in

Boston after screaming to the audience, "Does anyone want to see my

genitals?"...there was an opening line that everybody missed: "...and

now I'd like to do my impression of the governor of Arkansas..."

...1966, Jan Berry of Jan and Dean is paralyzed in a car accident...

a 19-year-old Bob Dylan takes his first big bite out of the Big Apple

this week in 1961 when he opens for John Lee Hooker at Gerde's Folk

City...two years later to the week little Bobby Zimmerman has hit the

big time and puts on his own show at New York's Town Hall...a

reviewer proclaims that Dylan is "the stuff of which legends are

made"...1954, Bill Haley and the Comets record "Rock Around the

Clock"...1981, Eddie Van Halen marries his favorite girl off the TV,

Valerie Bertinelli of "One Day at a Time"...1961, Miles Davis'

"Sketches of Spain" wins a Grammy for the odd category of "Best Jazz

Composition Of More Than Five Minutes Duration"...the category only

lasts one year...1976, Stevie Wonder signs a $13 million contract

with Motown...in the end, Motown gets every penny's worth...1963, The

Kingsmen record "Louie Louie"...1970, citing "personal differences,"

in a public announcement, Paul McCartney indicates he's planning a

"temporary break with the Beatles"...he adds that he will no longer

Peter Green announces his impending split with the band in order to

devote himself to "what God would have me do"...1976, riding a huge

Nash, and Young's huge double live album, "Four Way Street," goes

gold before it even appears on the album charts, where it quickly

...2000, Metallica files suit against Napster, Yale, USC, and Indiana

U. for copyright infringements inherent in Napster's system of

sharing free MP3s...1973, Bette Midler's debut album goes gold...

1982, Billy Joel discovers how dangerous motorcycles can be and

spends over a month in the hospital trying to get his injured hand

back up to speed...1976, bouncers at an Austin club flatten Boz

Skaggs when he pitches a fit after they won't let him backstage to
