SECTION 8: "Free E-mail "-
How to Get a Free E-mail Account without
Having an Internet Service Provider
There are several services that will provide you with a free e-mail account without having your own internet service provider account. This means that you can use a computer, as long as it has a modem, to connect with the e-mail service and collect your e-mail, and send out your e-mail.  This is the way that JUNO's e-mail works.  You have to download the program from the internet site, which means you have to connect to the internet from some computer to get the program this way; or, you can contact the company after reading the website information at

www.juno.com

The most work that is involved is getting the program.  Once you have that on your computer, you connect through your modem to Juno, according to the directions on the screen, and register with Juno... then you get to pick your e-mail address which will be the way other people can reach you. In this way, you can send and receive e-mail just as if you had an internet service account. The only thing to remember is to check in on a regular basis to pick up your mail.

Other free e-mail is HOTMAIL, which Microsoft took over about a year ago, and this is free, for now.  Believe that this operates in much the same way that JUNO does, but you can check it.

One other service that you can look into is BIGFOOT.COM, which is free, and which give you an e-mail address that you can give out, but the feature here is that it is good for people who change their Internet Service Provider ("ISP").  In other words, you can have Bigfoot as your e-mail address, and this is the only source that you have to notify when you change ISP's. Some ISP's go out of business, some will have a lower price and you may want to make a change to those, or you may move and have an ISP which does not have a local dialup number for your area
This is where the convenience of the Bigfoot system comes in.  Bigfoot receives your e-mail and re-routes it to your current ISP, without you having to go to each company or person that sends mail to you.  You just notify Bigfoot of your e-mail address change whenever you change your ISP, and mail addressed to your old addresses will still be received by Bigfoot for you.
Each ISP will have its name as part of your e-mail address. For example mine is Earthlink:
rguevara@earthlink.net   Many others have AOL.

This is just a brief description that will give you a starting point. I would write more, but time does not allow me at the moment. (To Be Updated in the future)
