Commentary on the future of Lincoln's program and
the news on this website.

note 6/11/99: for the last 3 months there has been very little to report as there have been no alumni meetings; The information on these pages is gathered from whatever source I can find.  I have had some information from alumni that I would like to include in the near future, but there is not anything in terms of updated information from current students which would provide us with some fresh viewpoints on what is going on in school life and elsewhere.  I had requested input of faculty for submissions from some of the students for publication here. I still have no response.   I hope this changes.

Reunion information this year is sparse since there is not any direct contact with me from the reunion organizers.  I request any information from anyone who may have updated information that I can add here.

I would like to have some indication of what readers would like to see here.  There will be photos added in some few weeks of past activities.

Observed on the KLCS program today were various sports figures, teacher/coach and a student discussing attaining success from situations of adversity, and what they have personally experienced. Gary Cruz, from Channel 4 Sports, discussed school experiences in high school sports which woke him up at the time- he was kicked off the JV baseball team after getting a D grade in another class by the coach. The normal routine was to suspend for a week, but the coach told him off for not doing better and kicked him out. Gary went on to get an A in the class and made the varsity team next year.  He appreciated the coaches action which woke him up.

At Lincoln there is a very weak SPORTS program which is part of what should be improved. There is not much (as I am aware of) in the MUSIC program. I do not know what the range of opportunity is in STUDENT GOVERNMENT at Lincoln, although I have indications that resources ared directed to ACADEMIC areas for the most part.

If the students are to be able to get some sense of accomplishment and achievement, there should be more opportunities in all of the above areas. Success in one area should have some effect on helping with positive action on other parts of life. Right now, the lack of these opportunities leaves many students without chances of excelling in these areas.  I might say that there may be some opportunities, but there needs to be MORE OPPORTUNITIES. A better program for sports and music will allow this.

At one time, there was a DRAMA class in Lincoln which put on programs. Other schools in more affluent areas do this, but Lincoln does not. Is this a question of budget or interest? I don't know, but it has value, and would be another item in bringing up the SCHOOL SPIRIT lacking at school and in the community.

There are factors of APATHY and AGENDA at work, with enough to go around for all components involved.. This has to change if the students are to be expected to do the best that they can..

Does anyone have any ideas, any facts or any information about any of this which would be of interest in looking for some solutions?
