George W. Bush wins presidential election in Florida Supreme court and re-election, despite many nation-wide voting anomalies.
Promotes and receives "Republican controlled" Congressional approval for tax reductions, but only for the richest
Americans.
Bush requests war on Iraq (and Saddam Hussein), indicating that Iraq's "weapons of mass destruction (WMD)" are
a threat to US security. No WMDs found by US and/or UN inspectors in Iraq. Invades Iraq anyway, using distorted and other
misinformation as justification. Few months later, declares victory and "Mission Accomplished" (after landing on
carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, honestly), despite the "still-in-progress" war status.
Bush sells Congress a Medicare prescription drug plan costing less than $400 billion for its first 10 years. Estimated
cost today is beyond $1,000,000,000,000 (that's a cost of over $25,000 per person)!
US debt hits highest in US history (and growing every day!). The debt is approximately $27,000 per person, that's about
$135,000 for a family of five. The prior administration's (i.e. Bill Clinton) plan would have paid off this debt in 2015.
For half a century, the US has sustained a decline in the number of children who die before their 5th birthday. Since
Bush took office, this trend has been reversed. There are still millions of Americans without health insurance.
Bush attempts to tear down Franklin Roosevelt's "New Deal", by restructuring and redefining Social Security.
No immediate response provided to citizens of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, who requested and needed help due to
hurricane Katrina. Much damage caused by inadequate "coastal protection" federal funding, as well as no evacuation
plan. Two weeks later, Bush takes full responsibility for mishandling of disaster.
Gas prices double over five years, under current administration, approximately $1,100 more per driver per year. This added
cost will eventually make it to the oil companies' record profits.
Over 120,000 Iraqis killed in the Iraq Invasion. Total US casualties over 2,000. Hundreds of thousands wounded on all
sides. No WMDs nor Osama bin Laden ever found, over 5 years after Bush's "Dead or Alive" edict. Bush still refuses
to provide a plan for troop withdrawal. No prediction for the end of war is in sight.
