The Silver Village Flute Choir (SVFC) was formed in July of 2000 As of this update the group has nine members. We rehearse on Sunday nights twice a month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm followed by a snack and social gathering. Rehearsals take place at differenct members' homes in the Newtown, CT area. We have in our group both an alto flute (three of them now) and a bass flute so we have the full flute choir family.
The group performs on average three or four times a year. Our repertoire thus far consists of about 80 pieces of music. You can view our library here.
In addition, the group occasionally sponsors special activities. In June of 2003, we took a road trip up to Massachusetts to see a master class with Gary Schocker and see a concert by Mr. Schocker and the Nashua Flute Choir. In January of 2004, we sponsored the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music Senior Flute Choir from Australia in a session with the local junior high school and a sight reading session with them of the SVFC library.
We're always open to new members. We have had a couple of high school students in the past with the rest of the group consisting of adults of varying abilities. Click here for our most recent group photos. Our main goal is to have fun and enjoy the unique sound of a flute choir, so please feel free to come check us out. There is no pressure. It is our hope that the experience itself will make you want to come back.
