Who is Rick Pierce?

Obviously I personally am going to think that's a very good question.  You must think so too or you wouldn't be here, now would you?  Since I already have a pretty good idea who I am, let me try and impart that knowledge to you.

This is a picture of me at my 38th birthday party.  (I'm the one on the right.  The other one is my mom.  I didn't want any confusion on that point.)  I was born in Nashua, NH on May 23, 1960.  Remember that date if you should decide to get me a birthday present.

I went to school in Nashua until the end of my sophomore year in high school at Bishop Guertin.  At that time my parents moved up to Colebrook, NH.  This had significant impact on my life.  I went from a city environment to a very small town.  My graduating class, of which I was salutatorian, had 50 kids in it.  This whole change caused me to review my plans and goals.  I had planned on a career in law but after taking part in a real music program and meeting a wonderful music teacher named Sally Conway I decided instead on a life of music.

I went to college at Plymouth State College to study music education.  I was a flute major and to this day the flute is still a huge part of my life.  You can check out my other pages for more about that.  I graduated with a high grade average and broke the record at the school for most college credits in a four year period.

During my time at Plymouth State I met my future wife, Monique Descoteaux.  I guess you could say this was the biggest turning point of my life.  She turned me from a bookworm geek into the very different person writing this today.

I looked for a job in music ed after graduation and found that starting teachers in New Hampshire were making about $ 8,500 a year at that time.  I quickly nixed that idea as I was going to have a new bride to support.  I kept my shipping job at Delta Education.

Shortly after this I married Monique.  She was still in college as a French major.  She was going to go off to France for a year to study.  We convinced her parents that she could get more financial aid married than she could living single with her parents.  All the plans were made for her to go and we planned our marriage in three weeks.   We had a church service in the Catholic church with a fabulous reception at her parents' house.  Everyone swam and played games and had a grand old time.  It was the best reception I've ever been to.

Things at Delta changed rapidly for me as I quickly moved through positions there in publisher fulfillment, quality control, warehouse management, purchase expediting, administrative assistant to the president, research and development and finally MIS where I managed the department until leaving for a new company in July of 1999.

In July of 1999, I accepted a position with TFS, a company in CT that specializes in outsourcing order entry and customer service.  The position again entails managing instead of programming was a challenging, yet fulfilling, position.

I left TFS at the end of October of 2000.  I still like the company and the people but it was time to move on.  I spent five months unemployed (and NEVER want to go through that again).  In mid-March 2001 I got a job as the IT Manager of The Marlin Company in North Haven, CT.  This so far has been the best job I've ever had and I look forward to a long career with this company.

That's enough history.  As to personal statistics, I don't believe in astrology, but I'd have to say that I'm as true a Gemini as there ever was.  I tend to be of two minds on most everything.  I generally like to keep to myself but I don't care for being alone.  I have a very literal mind and my sense of humor derives from this.  I love Disney cartoons and all the songs that go with them.  My earliest character was probably developed through characters like Bugs Bunny.  In fact, I do great Looney Tune impersonations (just ask my kids).  I like classical and pop music.  I hate hard rock, country and crap, I mean rap (although I don't really qualify it as music).  I like to read science fiction and fantasy.  My four favorite authors are Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, Jack Chalker and Robert Jordan.  I love Babylon 5.  If ever there was a great TV show, this is it.  It replaced Star Trek The Next Generation as the only thing I watch on TV (of course now that it done it's 5 year run I don't watch much TV).  I work way too much which keeps me away from my favorite activities which are arranging/composing, NERO, Earthdawn and AD&D.  You can see all of those on their own pages if you go back to my home page.  I went back to school in 1998 and have taken courses in HTML, Visual Basic and C.  Since taking the job with Marlin I've gotten some further education in Visual Basic and SQL administration.

If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, don't hesitate to ask.
