Philip Biddinger's parents were emigrating from Berkley County,
West Virginia, to the state of Kentucky and had reached the foot of the Allegheny Mountains on
the eighth day of November 1799, Philip Biddinger was born. After a short stay at the mountains,
his father settled in Bourbon county, Kentucky, where his childhood was spent. In 1804, his
father moved back to West Virginia where he lived about one year. They then crossed the Ohio
river at Steubenville and settled in the north part of Harrison county, Ohio. At the age of
twenty he married Miss Sarah Hartman, of Cadiz, Ohio. He remained in Harrison county about
two years when his eldest son, William, was born. Then immigrated to what was then called
Old Richland County, just south of the village of Orange, Ohio. He lived for several years
and where seven children were born - David, Sophia, Nelson, Mary, Christian, George and John.
In April 1847 he came to Troy, Ohio where he has lived ever since. Philip Biddinger was very active for a man of his age, and has always worked at his trade of shoemaking. Philip Biddinger was a faithful supporter of the Democratic party. He has been married twice; his first wife, Sarah Hartman, died in March 1876. He married again in 1879 to Mrs. Catherine Sprinkle of Nova, Ohio. He is the grandfather of thirty-eight children and the great-grand-father of seventy seven children. This book is about Philip Biddinger, his family, and his many of his descendants. |
