    Establishment

The Society archives were established by action of the Society at its general membership meeting in May, 2005. Member Russ Dolbear has volunteered to be Archivist, and has provided a temporary storage space for the archives. He provided further research and recommendations on a method of identifying and cataloging items received for the archives.

    Software endorsement

PastPerfect has been endorsed by the Society at its May 2006 membership meeting, but funding was not appropriated at that time. The Society purchased the software and hardware during CY 2007, and it is in the process of being set up.

    Items received to date

To date, such materials include photos/slides, paper/forms, railroad publications and track charts/blueprints. The Archives is also responsible for the long-term corporate records of the Society.

    Catalog Planned

An online catalog of items in the Archives is planned, but a format has not yet been agreed to. Access to the Archives themselves has not been determined, but copies of some items may be offered in the Company Store in the future.

    Receipt of Items

Since the Society is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) exempt organization, the Society is able to accept donations of items for the archives, with the donor responsible for estimating their value. While to most this is small, it does mean the Society could accept equipment and/or real estate.

If you have an item or items you wish to donate, please contact Russ Dolbear, Society Archivist, at archivist@rfandp.org.
