14 new members at August Greenberg show at Chantilly 8-23/24
The Society was be represented at the Greenberg show at Chantilly, Va. on August 23-24, 2008. In addition to Company Store sales,
14 new members signed up, and four renewals for 2008 were accepted. Several members were seen visiting the table.

26 members attend August 16 meeting
Turnout was great at the August 16th meeting, with 26 members attending including 4 first timers.
There was a special presentation from Hubie Jewell on Railroad Telegraphy, and an on-screen presentation of
Bruce Fales photographs.
Please note that the November meeting is at the same Harrison Road location, on November 15th.

3rd Quarter meeting upcoming: August 16, 2008 at Harrison Road
Spotsylvania County's Harrison Road Community Center is the site of the 3rd Quarter Society meeting, on Saturday, August 16, 2008, beginning at 10am. The room will be open at 9am as usual.
The traditional lunch break will be had, with pizza and drinks provided. Presentations are welcome, email the Vice President if you wish it included in the on-screen program.
Among the agenda items will be officer nominations for the 2009 calendar year, and two directorships for the 2009 and 2010 years.
Harrison Road (620) is about 2 miles south of VA Route 3 (I-95 exit #130 east), and 1.8 miles north of I-95 at Massaponax exit #126, off of US 1, about 1/10th of a mile west of US 1. The facility is on the left side of
Harrison Road. A direction flyer was mailed out with V4 I2.

CS at August Greenberg shows at Timonium and Chantilly
The Society will be represented by CS and Membership presence at the upcoming Greenberg shows at Timonium, Md. (August 2-3) and Chantilly, Va. (August 23-24).
Members are encouraged to seek out the Society banner - additional table volunteers are always welcome (if you know in advance you can spend a few hours, specially
during part of the lunch period, please let Ron Herfurth know in advance on the csmanager@rfandp.org address).

Volume 4, Issue 1, mailed to members
Volume 4, Issue 1, features several articles and items about Doswell Virginia, an important crossing located between Richmond and Fredericksburg. In addition to the historical profile written by William E. Griffin, Jr., this issue features a first time contribution by member Joel E. Hoffman titled “Louisa’s Revenge, or How the Future CSX Litigated Its Way From Doswell to Richmond.” These two articles complement each other nicely and provide an in-depth look at how railroads interacted with each other in the early 19th Century.
Included with the issue are the following items:
- Two (11 x 17) pages and one (8˝ x 11) page showing the station drawing (inside and out) and scale drawings of the tower, all sides),
- An RF&P HS decal,
- One (8˝ x 11) page drawing of the Doswell Station Lampost,
- Advertisements for the Society’s exclusive run of HO caboose models and for the book Firing on the Pennsy both offered for sale through the Company Store, and
- An updated Company Store order form.

HO scale Red Caboose (903/906) ARE here

The Society has commissioned a run by Atlas of 150 each of numbers 903 and 906, each painted in the red as they were repainted, without any of the safety slogans applied.
The Company Store Manager took possession of the run on February 10, 2008. They will debut at the March 8-9, 2008 Greenburg show in Fredericksburg, Va., but are available
for sale at this time.
Price is $30 for one, $55 for both. See the Company Store for the order form. Paypal will go live on February 12, 2008 as a payment option.

Society to have table at Greenberg's Fredericksburg show March 8-9, 2008
As at the last four Greenberg (Great Train Expo as the interlude name, they have returned to the Greenberg name) shows in Chantilly, the Society
will again be represented with a table at their new location in Fredericskburg, Va., on March 8-9, 2008.
The Company Store will be present, with the new cabooses in hand, as well membership. Look for the banner and drop on by if you are coming to the show. Volunteers willing to help
staff the table greatly appreciated, but it is ok just to drop in and say "hi" too!

A 1st Quarter 2008 meeting will NOT be held
Unfortunately, we were not able to locate a meeting place that could accomodate us, so we did not schedule a 1st quarter meeting. As noted below, a flyer with the 2nd, 3rd & 4th quarter meeting dates and places will be included in the next issue of the newsletter.
We hope to see everyone on May 17th.
Note that the Society will be at the March 8-9, 2008 Greenburg show in Fredericksburg, Va - members who may be visiting that show are encouraged to drop by for a while, and table volunteers will not be turned away.

42 members and 6 guests attended the 3rd Quarter Meeting at the Salem Church Library, including 15 members
who attended their first meeting, including two who joined that day. The Company Store was in business,
selling at least 7 Society shirts

Society gains 21 new members at the ACLSALHS convention
The Society was represented by Ron Herfurth and Jim Musgrove at the ACLSAL Society convention in Richmond on June 28-July 1, and saw 21 new member
applications taken. Thanks go out to these gentlemen for representing the Society.

Society turns 2
Monday, May 14, 2007 marks the 2nd anniversary of the formal creation of the Society.
In two short years,
the Society has seen the membership grow from 30 to 300, the creation of the Society Archives, the filing
of Articles of Incorporation with the State Corporation Commission, the granting of 501(c)(3) exempt organization
status by the IRS, publication of eight quartlery issues of "Linking North and South" and growing attendence
at the quarterly meetings.

The four meeting dates at the Salem Church Library for 2007 are as follows:

As in the past, all events start at 10am, with agendas and presentations announced closer to the
respective date.

28 attend 2006 annual meeting, 70+ return ballots
The highlight of the day was a Question and Answer period with Jack McGinley and Wilbur Morris, but the day saw
at least 28 members and 3 guests attend the 2006 Annual Meeting. The elections ballots were tabulated, with more than 70 members
having either returned a ballot by mail or in person, at least a 31% response rate based on 225 members.
The CS was open, debuting the new Mousepad, and showing off a zippered
hooded sweatshirt with the Society logo on them, as well as a Hat with the RF&P script (as used in the Society Logo).

Thanks go out to Ron for manning the CS, the Andersons for counting the ballots, Andrew Morris for running the powerpoint
presentation, and to Bill Sheild and Jim Musgrove on providing the drinks and food. Among the displays on hand were several sets
of authentic RF&P Conductors uniforms that Russ Dolbear had acquired. Also on display was a G scale F-7 painted in the RF&P as-delivered
scheme, as well as an O scale representation of business car 100, complete with interior.
