The Women Flying Training Detachment (WFTD) began operations as the
319th WFTD in Houston, Texas. Only the first two classes graduated from
the 319th. Once the WFTD was permanently moved to Sweetwater, Texas, the
unit became the 318th WFTD. The class number signifies the fiscal year
in which the class started, women cadets, and the numerical order of the
class.
