Worship The Woodgrain: FAQ

Background
Worship the Woodgrain was a personal project started some time ago as a way to store a massive
amount of Atari 2600 games in a tiny amount of space, i.e. my desktop. I got tired of hauling out my cartridges
everytime I wanted to play a game. I own a great 256-in-1 multi-cart, but let's face it, messing with those tiny dip
switches is a pain in the keester. The results I obtained were better than I originally imagined. I am able to play
all 2k, 4k and all Supercharger games on a standard Atari 2600 game machine using a standard compact disk player
and a modified Starpath Supercharger.

DISCLAIMER
Nearly all existing Atari 2600 game images are available from multiple sources on the net. Then there are emulators; however,
something is always lost through emulation and the emulators don't always support all the games and hardware (ever try to
play 4 player Warlords on an emulator?). Additionally, there are classic game sites that will provide classic gamers multi-carts
(a cartridge with multiple Atari games on one cart) and copy carts of games.  But, these options can be costly and frustrating to use.

The idea behind "Worship the Woodgrain" is to put fun games in the hands of collectors, at an economical price, that is easy to use.
This compilation is professionally produced so your wife (spouse, significant other, etc.) will have a hard time complaining about it sitting
next to their stack of Mozart CDs in the family room (or maybe you are into Motley Crew or the Grateful Dead.. whatever..) In any event,
this is not a "hack" job. Most folks who, would otherwise have an extremely difficult time putting a ROM image on a cart, now have a chance
to play these games on a real Atari 2600 with all the appropriate accessories. There are also many collectors, like me,  who own a wherehouse
full of Atari  2600 carts, but find it a real pain in the keester to sift through them to find the game you want to play. Addtionally, many games
are next to near impossible to aquire (if at all, like one-of-a-kind prototypes). Then there are those people who do not have a computer or
internet access. This CD compilation is for ALL you folks.

Please note: We are not selling games; rather we are selling a service. That service is to compile all these games in an attractive and compact form
that is playable on a Atari 2600 system. As stated above, the games contained on this compilation are widely available on the net, and should not
be considered as a substitute for original distribution media.

What will it cost?
"The fun is back" for under $50 bux"
The cost is $30 US funds. This includes 4 CD's with nearly 400 Atari 2600 games ready to play on your Supercharger.
It will also include a professionally illustrated jacket insert and instructions. Thus, it  is a lot cheaper than buying all the games individually
(that is, if you could find them to buy) or approximately half the price of a multi-cart and you get more games.
Do + the math. More games = More Fun

Do I Really Need to Modify My Supercharger?
Yes and no. Many of the games will play just fine on an unmodified Supercharger. More than 65% of them will play without modification.

How Do I Modify My Supercharger?
See
Bob Colberts webpage . He has excellent schematics and easy to follow instructions.
Note: Enclosed within the Worship the Woodgrain manual are simple, easy to follow, instructions as well.

How Do I play the Games?
This is easy. Plug the Supercharger into your Atari 2600 and the input cable into any CD player audio output
jack ,i.e., headphones jack, and select the the track and press play. Unlike multi-carts, there are no dip switches
to fumble with, and finding the game you want to play is as easy as selecting an audio track for replay.

How do I reserve a copy?
All you need to do is email me at
ResQsoft@earthlink.net
Put Worship the Woodgrain in the subject, let me know your real name and email address and we'll let you know if there are any available.

Will the Games work on an emulator?
No. The games on this compilation will play only on all Atari 2600's and all compatible clones using a Supercharger and a CD player.
No emulation is required.

What Games are included?
Let me first state what is not included. None of the SuperCharger Games are available on this collection!
The
CyberPunks  have made these available on the Starpath CD and is a terrific value. WTW compliments these games by offering
the entire 2k and 4K Atari 2600 game library on 4 compact discs, ready to play on your Atari. These include some of the recent  home brewed games
as are some other surprises  like unreleased prototypes and other obscure goodies.

What format are the games in (NTSC or PAL)?
The majority of the games are in NTSC format. However, some of the more obscure games that were released exclusively in Europe and Asia
are in PAL format. Playing PAL games on NTSC TVs results in a sync problem (the screen rolls horizontally). These problems can be overcome
by adjusting the horizontal hold on your TV or hooking your Atari 2600 to a muti-sync monitor. My recommendation is use an Amiga/Commodore
monitor. I personally like the 1084 monitors. BTW: Many new TVs on the market are international and automatically adjust the horizontal hold (i.e., multi-sync).

This sounds great, but where can I get a SuperCharger?
You can purchase SuperChargers at numerous places on the net, including ebay.

What's with the "3rd Eye" in the title name?
WTW was so popular that it has gone through 3 editions. Each successive edition included more protos as they were discovered.

1st Edition "Worship the Woodgrain"

2nd Edition "Worship the Woodgrain 2K"

3rd Edition "Worship the Woodgrain: 3rd Eye" - Gotta love those eerie deep space images the Hubble brings us.

It's Official Classic Gaming Fans Love It...
Lee,
I received my "WTW" CD in the mail today!  Unfortunately by the time I
checked the mail it was too late to play any of the games.  I'm now looking
forward to weekend of CLASSIC GAMING.  My thanks to you and everyone who
worked on this project....everything about the package looks professional;
thumbs up on a job well done!!!

Thanks once again,
D.E.

Thanks
