PROJECTS WORKED ON

Independent Consultant - Programming

§   Analyzed requirements, designed and programmed large and small-scale software systems.

§   Managed a 2 year project for the Associated Press to computerize election and sports reporting. (C, VMS, DBMS)

§   Maintained and enhanced a Slot machine management system for Trumps Castle Hotel & Casino. The microprocessor controlled slot machines were connected via a special purpose LAN to a central computer for R/T monitoring of breakdowns, large wins, and security violations. The slot machines have a microprocessor control unit and are connected to a large computer for record keeping and real-time alerts. My job was to make the system work and to enhance it with player tracking. (Assembler, Pascal and Basic)

§   Interfaced a computerized drafting system with a plasma-torch sheet metal cutting system. The Systems used were a Motorola 68000 running the drafting software with multiple display screens and a tablet data entry pad.. The plasma torch was controlled by a PDP-11 computer. My task was to decode the data formats of both systems, to allow the to communicate and transfer the technical descriptions of parts to be cut, and then enhance them both.

§   Converted Trunk Line monitoring system for NY Telephone from C and assembly language to pure UNIX and C.

§   Designed and wrote a Letter of Credit workstation for Citibank. (Pascal)

§   Maintained and upgraded an existing Alaska Oil Pipeline management system for British Petroleum. (Fortran)

§   Developed an Insurance Agent workstation for Metropolitan Life Ins. (Basic, dBase)

§   Created a programming interface for Morgan Guarantee Trust. Allowed programmers to develop applications in any language, while accessing R/T foreign exchange data from the trading floor. (Assembler, C, Cobol, Pascal).

§   Worked as part of a team to develop Chase bank’s EFTS system. It used a specialized transaction processing system and we added custom programs. In addition to the applications programs I write code for drivers to interface with CHIPS and SWIFT banking systems. (Pascal, Assembly)

§   Part of the management team that developed an inventory and order taking system for AIRCO Welding Products. The system kept track of tens of thousands of parts in nationwide warehouses, and improved the productivity of warehouse employees while reducing inventory costs

Network Servers (Windows NT, Linux)

Configured, built, installed and maintained a variety of servers for use by clients.

§   Web server – constructed Linux/Apache servers for use in website development classes. Provided an environment

§   Internet Proxy – all networked users shared a communications line (DSL, ISDN, dial-up phone) and Internet account. Configured e-mail and site filtering for all users.

§   Fax server – all incoming faxes and all computer generated outgoing faxes were routed through Microsoft Exchange and Fax Server.

§   File server – data storage with automated tape backup. UPS protected with automatic shutdown/startup.

Web Development

§   Developed websites using Microsoft FrontPage and SoftQuad’s HotMetal Pro.

§   Subcontracted to write Allaire ColdFusion code for website development company. My code allowed users to query a SQL database and display the extracted information.

§   Developed and taught web development training courses. Courses covered all aspects from basic site design and maintenance (HTML, FTP, URL registration…), through more advanced topics (multimedia, CSS, e-commerce, on-line database access, CGI scripts,  JAVA applets, PHP…).

Windows 98/NT/2000

§   Installed Windows 98, NT and 2000 workstation and server software. Installed additional hardware devices and drivers. Configured the accounts, security, and network printers, with automatic UPS and tape backup handling.

§   Installation and Administration of LANs running Windows NT Server, Microsoft BackOffice and SBS Integrated family of server products. Workstations are a mix of Windows NT/95/98/2000 systems.

§   Built and maintained special order computer systems per customer’s request.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

e400 Systems Consultant/Analyst/Programmer/                Brooklyn, New York

1981 – 2000

Computer Consultant                                                                     Self-employed

Worked with sales staff from many different consulting companies. Went on sales calls to meet with potential customers. I dealt with the technical aspects of the meeting.

Analyzed user needs, designed systems, managed project teams, programmed.

As an independent consultant, I contracted with many companies to computerize aspects of their business or to upgrade existing systems.

Industries included: Publishing, Banking, Manufacturing, Insurance, Casino gambling, Telephone, Petroleum, and Media.

§         McGraw Hill Publishing Co.

§         Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.

§         Citibank

§         Chase Manhattan Bank

§         Morgan Guarantee Bank

§         The Associated Press

§         New York Telephone

§         Trump Castle Casino Hotel

§         British Petroleum

§         New York Telephone

1979 – 1981

Programmer    Bell Laboratories                                       Holmdel, New Jersey

Worked as a member of a small team to develop large-scale data communications networks. This was cutting-edge work, since (unlike today) wide-area computer networks were not available outside of government agencies and universities.

Systems where designed using UNIX/RT a real-time version of Unix to handle data routing and transmission, with a specialized microprocessor to handle all incoming data streams. Code was written in C and assembly language.

1977 – 1979

Programmer    The Rockefeller University                                  New York City

Sole programmer for all microprocessor based lab equipment developed for research being done by other research departments, labs and hospitals.

Since microprocessors were new (PCs not yet available), we created new techniques for designing and producing computerized laboratory equipment. I developed a development system on a minicomputer and write cross assemblers for the 6800, 6502, 8080, 8086, 1802 microprocessors.

We developed systems for R/T monitoring and control of lab experiments. Systems used microprocessors for experiment control and data capture and PDP-11’s with RSX-11 and RT-11 for data analysis and display.
