Regina stargazing Regina and Stephen are avid amateur star-gazers, Regina particularly being interested in the planets, star clusters, and meteor showers (in the photos at left, she's shown during the last 2006 Perseid meteor shower. Has Kobe just seen one?) And of course she's especially fond of Lick Observatory, due to her many years of giving concerts for the "Music of the Spheres" program on Mt. Hamilton. Regina says, "I like anything that looks bright, not dim, in the telescope, since I spent many years looking through the big scopes at Mt. Hamilton. No faint, faint galaxies, please!" But, Stephen loves really faint and obscure deep-sky objects: the dimmer and smaller and farther away the galaxies and nebulae, the better. (How can this relationship last? It's managed to go on for 20 years despite their 'astronomical incompatibility'!) We express our interest in astronomy in a small way in these examples below of 'wallpaper' for our original first music lab computer, which still runs Windows 3.1 for some very old programs that will not work on modern equipment. Here's a collection of the screen saver and wallpaper pictures we created about 15 years ago. Yes: they look a little garish now; but that's old Win 3.1 using 256 big, glorious colors!
