The Beauty and The Beast!

Cycling on the Paul Bunyan TrailMonday, August 25, Overnight Bike Trip; Day One-72 Miles to Cass Lake, MN

I made a command decision to start a daily blog at On the Road at Blogspot while I have my current journal here at Earthlink under construction. You can check it out for up-to-date posts starting October 25, 2009.

Check back here once in a while as progress continues in my effort to catch up past months. As of November 18, 2009, I have uploaded January 2009 to this Earthlink site!

The last month in Tulsa was not as warm as we hoped but we managed to find a few warm days to cycle and play golf. November 19 we'll head south to Ardmore at Lake Murray State Park for a week. Then we stop at Lake Texoma for Thanksgiving weekend. We'll keep our fingers crossed for warm weather.

For those of you who haven't heard, we bought a new truck and a new RV! After we left the coast of Texas in March 2009 we stopped in Boerne just northwest of San Antonio to look at an RV we saw there last year. They didn't have the model we were interested in so we decided to try to find the Glendale Titanium 30E35SA 5th wheel that we liked so much. Check it out at Glendale RV. We drove to Ohio, viewed it in Canada, bought it in Findlay, OH, and moved in April 30th, 2009. We spent the summer roaming around Ohio. So far we love our new home-on-wheels and are finally getting the bugs worked out after stopping for some warranty work in Cambridge, OH.

In 2003 Rita and Bob began the process of leaving behind a 30-year lifestyle of full-time employment and home ownership. Our goal was to retire and hit the road as full-time RVers in a 30-foot Lakota travel trailer (The Beauty) pulled by a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD (The Beast). We are living our dream to see the Americas one square mile at a time!In true Jimmy LaFave spirit, we want to be in a permanent "Highway Trance." We left Austin, TX, on March 1, 2004 as we hitched up for the first time and headed for places unknown.

In 2009 as we began our sixth year of this amazing lifestyle, little did we know that just a few months later we would take a 1,300-mile detour to Bluffton, OH, to buy a new RV and a new tow vehicle. On April 30, 2009 we moved into our new home-on-wheels, a 36.5-foot Titanium 5th wheel (The Titanic) pulled by a 2007 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel 4x4 (Big Bertha-The Titanium driver!)

The map you see above on this page is our latest move route. The blue line is our last trip to our current campsite. The yellow lines are past routes we have taken.

New Feature--Check it out! See on-line map for our location in the USA this week http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=1656)

The map site you will see on-line is sponsored by Data Storm Satellite Users and lets me enter the latitude and longitude coordinates of our current location. Then anyone can click on the link and see where we are in the good old USA. This site is mainly for people who own Data Storm Satellites, but any RVers are welcome to enter their coordinates so the folks back home can pinpoint where they are. Bob and I have been assigned user #1656 'Rita and Bob RVing.' You'll see our name under the map. Click on our name and 1656 will show up on the map. If you don't see us or we are overlapped by other numbers, go back down to our name below the map and click on the plus signs until you can see our number. It really zooms in close.

Gertrude is ready to Trick or Treat on The Titanic!

"...any traveler who misses the journey misses about all he's going to get." --William Least Heat Moon

"Doing something you have never done before always requires some degree of risk, but it is a risk worth taking if you are tired of doing what you have always done." -- Escapees RV Magazine, Kay Peterson

A quote from American Magazine, 1906, regarding the new hobby of postcard collecting: "Postal carditis and allied collecting manias are working havoc among the inhabitants of the United States . . . Unless such manifestations are checked, millions of persons of now normal lives and irreproachable habits will become victims of faddy degeneration of the brain."
