10-07-2005 Oscar's Diner and Chicken Soup at The Cabin

Friday, October 7, dawned bright and sunny but only got up to about 57 degrees all day. The wind is blowing tall waves on the Osage. A huge Holiday Rambler 5th Wheel pulling a camoflage boat arrived around 11:30 with two good old boys who seem to have hooked up with the couple in the Pace Arrow who got in late last night. They must be Columbus Day weekend warriors. I worked on journal pages and photos most the morning and early afternoon. The phone didn't ring but we had a message from Patti as we left to go out for lunch. She says it's chicken soup at The Cabin around 6:30 tonight.

We had lunch at Oscar's Diner behind Gerbe's. I enjoyed a great Cobb Salad. The walls were lined with fun old movie posters. Johnny Cash and the Rat Pack were my favorites. Nice neon Busch advertising sign with the Arch, 'old' Busch Stadium and the Cardinals. That will be a collector's item soon. We stopped at Gerbe's for cheese and crackers to take tonight and salad ingredients for the rest of the weekend. We got gas for $2.69/galllon and right as we started to pull away from the pump the guy changed the big sign to $2.59!

Back home we had fun with the paper and puzzles. I cut up cheese and we left around 5:45 for Irregular Deer Camp. The propane was out when we got there. Lori and Larraine were trying to read in the dark. Bob changed bottles and we were all back in business. Bernie got a deer earlier this morning. We had hot, hot chicken soup about an hour later. Tasted good on a chilly night. Jeremy had brought Apricot Brandy and that warmed us up all the way down to our toes. Bob and I were home by 8:30 or 9:00.
