07-27-2005 Fishin' Cheboygan River

Wednesday, July 27, after breakfast there was a knock on the door. Our neighbor, Tom, handed us a 10-foot long sever hose. He sliced into ours with the weedwacker this morning. Bob just went out and cut the damaged three foot off of our 20 foot hose and remedied the whole thing. We loaded the boat and drove to Topinabee to get out-of-state fishing licenses ($34.00 each plus $1.00 Sport Card, whatever that is.) I walked to Topinabee's post office next door to mail letters. We got a paper at Topinabee Market where we got our licenses and then it was on to Cheboygan and lunch at Indo China Gardens. I had Curry Chicken, the special of the day. Bob had Moo Goo Gei Pan. Both were great.

Then about 2:00 we drove back to the Lincoln Bridge over the Cheboygan River and launched The DeLorean at the public boat ramp. The motor started on the first lick and we headed up river stopping at reeds, lily pads and stumps along the way. But the fish weren’t' biting. Bob caught a half dozen small guys on the fly rod but I was skunked. It was 71 degrees and perfect weather. We took out at 8:00 p.m. There were still hours of daylight left.

We were back home by 8:45. Tom and Shirley were out by a fire in back of their rig. We had a PB&J sandwich and then joined them by the fire. I made two pots of coffee that Tom and I shared (Bob and Shirley are non-imbibers.) We sat out until 11:00. This is the Michigan weather we had been hoping for.

It's 11:28 p.m. and 60.1 degrees.
