By this time it was 1:30 and time to head back to the hair place. I dropped Bob off and returned to the Post Office. I told the guy we were expecting a General Delivery. He was cool with that. I paid for my packages and stamps and was on my way. I stopped down Hwy 31 at the Information Center and picked up campground and more golf brochures. We need to make a decision about whether we're staying here when we get bumped out of this site next week, or are we moving to another local campground. Bummer, we really hate moving so soon.
I picked Bob up at 2:00 and we stopped by the campsite for a bit. We regrouped and decided not to hike the dunes today. We're retired. We need a day of rest. So we promptly ate a snack and headed to downtown Beulah to Granary Antiques that we spotted on the way to check out the golf courses. It was a nice mall with lots of stuff piled everywhere. I found a dozen nice postcards. Then we went down to the main drag in town, Benzie Blvd., and found Crystal Lake Antiques. We parked behind the store right on Crystal Lake. This is a huge body of water! There were tons of people frying their skin on the beach. Although today is a pleasant 75 degrees the sun is still intense.
Bob found a Cracker Jack golf game and an old golf tie tack that were bargains. This place had boxes of postcards. I was hunting through them and chatted with a lady who looks for her home town, Muskegon, MI, and her husband's home town somewhere in Ohio. I found about twenty great cards. The lady at the checkout recommended The Cherry Hut on Hwy 31 so we headed there for lunch. When we returned to the truck along Crystal Lake a snapped a picture of a bright yellow sailboat. This little town is very picturesque with the blue expanse of water as a backdrop.
The Cherry Hut was all about fresh Michigan Cherries. Bob said the gal who cut his hair freezes the cherries whole, with the pits, and enjoys them all winter. That was news to me. The Cherry Hut is open June through October. The staff was all in a dither today. They were going to be on the local news tonight. The owner had been interviewed earlier in the day. This week is the annual Cherry Festival in nearby Traverse City so I gues they're getting some good advertising out of that.
Bob had the Spinach Salad with walnuts, feta, dried cherries and cherry vinaigrette dressing. I had the Cherry Chicken Salad with fruit. We both got a Cherry Muffin with our salads. The gift shop had every cherry item imaginable. I bought four postcards and we only drooled over the pies (3 whole deep-dish cherry pies for $18.00.) What in the world would we do with three of them in an RV! And I won't even go into the whole calorie thing. We walked next door to a farmer's market and bought 'local' tomatoes and Cherry Jam. We wanted some blueberries but not 10 pounds of them!
We got a paper at the Shell Station on the way home. Bob picked up the last Detroit News and the guy behind him groaned. He had to settle for the Beulah Bugle or some such thing. There is a back entrance to our campsite behind the Shell Station so we ducked in there and went home. We lounged with the paper and puzzles. It was so nice to come back to a cool trailer. It's almost chilly with just a few windows open. I had both heaters on this morning when I got up. It was 58 degrees but the air was chilly. You can tell we're very close to Lake Michigan and the breezes are chilly.
It's 8:33 p.m. and 68.5 degrees.
