The rain passed, the sun came out and it was more humid than ever. So like a fool, I decided to head over to the camp laundry before the mob arrives for the holiday weekend. Some lady had both dryers occupied but I stuck my two loads in the washers after getting $5.00 worth of quarters from Phil's wife, Chun. The other lady arrived on a golf cart (the preferred mode of transportation here at Leisure Valley) and took her clothes out of the dryers just in time for mine to go in. There is no describing how hot it was in that laundry room. The temperature outside is 94 degrees, the humidity is 92 percent and it felt cool whenever I stepped outside of the laundry room to catch my breath! Yikes! To add insult to injury, there were 10 or 12 people splashing around in the pool that butts up to the laundry room door. They looked way too cool.
On top of that some big beefy gal pulled up in a septic truck and went behind the office and started pumping out unmentionable stuff from the system here. That put an appalling aroma in the air that hung on the humidity like Velcro. On top of all that, some rust color from something in my colors ran on to four of my shirts. I never did figure out exactly what caused that. So when I got back home I had to have a post-soak (similar to a pre-soak, but used by dunces like me to post-treat their laundry mishaps.) By this time I felt like an employee just getting off of a 14-hour shift at the dry cleaners in Presidio! When I stepped into our air-conditioned trailer it felt like a meat locker. I didn't even put the clothes away. I just cleaned up, changed my clothes and we headed in to Decatur to find lunch. The only place in town had closed at 2:00 so we drove north to Paw Paw and finally found the well-hidden Bistro/Pub on Red Arrow Highway.
You actually enter around back, where the parking is. The Bistro section was closed from 2:00 - 4:30 but they sent us up front to the Pub which serves all day. The hours on the door say 11:00 to Close. They had six or seven items on an abbreviated menu for the afternoon hours but they all looked tasty and came with a choice of one of a dozen great looking soups. Bob had Crab Salad on Croissant with Spicy Chili and I had Strawberry Pineapple Banana Chicken Salad with White Bean Chili. This was one of the best salads I ever had. The strawberries were local, which of course are in season and were sweet and perfectly ripe. Ditto for the pineapple and bananas as far as being perfectly ripe. We had thoughts of trying one of their luscious homemade desserts in the case back in The Bistro but we were both too stuffed.
We stopped in Paw Paw Shopping Center for a few groceries. The heat is stifling in the sun. Bob got a paper on the way out and we went home and collapsed. Later in the afternoon we had a major league cleanout of all of our books in order to make room for the new stash we bought yesterday. We cleared out a half empty pantry shelf and turned it into "The Library."
It's 8:31 p.m. and 79.2 degrees.
