06-25-2005 Reitz's Flea Market, Paw Paw, MI

Saturday, June 25, I took a walk early. It is 77 degrees already at 8:00 a.m. The black flies were after me on the park bench by the pond. Back home in the lawn chair the mosquitoes wouldn't leave me alone. So I went back inside. After breakfast we headed to Paw Paw, stopping at an ATM I saw in Village Market the other day.

We found Reitz's Flea Market on Red Arrow Hwy, just west of Lake Cora Golf Course where we played the other day. The flea market was a good one. Bob found jack stands, a shower head replacement and some lures. I found six paperbacks. There's no describing how hot it was out there in that field in the sun. The high was 97 degrees today. And it is so humid! The heat index is over 100. We're sure glad we retired and got out of Texas so we could spend our summers up north where it is cool:-)

We left the flea market around 1:30. We ate at China Buffet in downtown Paw Paw; not very memorable. We walked down the street to get a few groceries and a Kalamazoo Gazette. We were back home by 3:15 to watch the US Open. Michelle Wie, the amateur, has the 3rd round lead. Anika needs a great round tomorrow to make history.

There are lots of people here this weekend but nobody is out and about in this heat. I called my friend Holly in Austin this evening. It was not a very good connection in spite of being in a digital cell area and having all of the bars. It was nice to chat with her for a while though. Patti called later and the connection wasn't much better, but at least the phone did ring.

I read most of the evening. It's 11:16 p.m. (it has only been dark for 45 minutes) and 77 degrees.
