06-21-2005 Golf at Lake Cora Golf Course on Red Arrow Hwy in Paw Paw, MI

Tuesday, January 21, something made me incredibly tired yesterday. I couldn't snap out of it this morning. It must be spilling over to the entire campground. By 9:30 not a creature is stirring. Our Atomic clock still hasn't changed time zones; I guess my internal clock is out of order also.

We got ready for golf at a leisurely pace. We took the boat off of the truck before we left. It's already getting hot. When you're far enough north to notice the days are longer, shouldn't you be far enough north for it to be cool? We went north on Hwy 51 to Red Arrow Highway and took a left, just like Phil, the RV Park owner, directed us and found Lake Cora golf course. I couldn't remember the name of the place at first, the brochure is in the truck and the scorecard is kind of homemade and doesn't even have the name of the place on it. Of course the green fees were on $10.00 each to walk so I guess you can't expect much. The course was hilly but walkable. We had the front nine to ourselves. It started with a Par 3 and two Par 5's. There ought to be a law against that! I played the Reds at 5,261 yds and Bob played the Whites at 6,193 yds. The greens are in great shape but it's very hard to read the line.

Four kids from hell jumped in front of us on #10. The back nine slowed to a crawl. A guy named Dave who was walking joined up with us on 11 and 12. We got tired of the pace and it was 4:30 by this time so we said goodbye to Dave, crossed the road and packed our clubs back in The Beast that was waiting in the shade in the parking lot. It was very hot with a high of 92 and a dew point of 67 that was making it seem very steamy. We took Red Arrow Hwy east in to Paw Paw. We found La Cantina Italian Restaurant. We both thought it was Mexican when we saw La Cantina; been in Texas too long! We arrived at 4:50 and they didn't open until 5:00 so we crossed the Red Arrow Hwy and sat along Maple Lake. It was a very peaceful lake right in the middle of town. We soon saw the OPEN neon sign on La Cantina and headed back over there. This was an outstanding Italian place. Bob had Chicken Marsalis in a to-die-for sweet red wine sauce. I had Pompeii Pasta with grilled artichokes and Portobello mushrooms. Bob had a draft beer and I had an iced cappuccino. Huge bowls of Minestrone topped it all off.

We left with big "To Go" boxes in spite of being really hungry when we arrived. We followed our waitress's directions to the post office in Paw Paw. On the way out of town I spotted Eleanor's Hair Salon--there may be a haircut in my near future. We were home by 6:15. We had thoughts of fishing but we both collapsed. Didn't think of getting a paper until it was too late. We finally rallied for showers after Bob hooked up our drain hose. We watched 100 Best Movie Quotes on TV and snacked on yesterday's Saylor's pizza.

It's 11:31 p.m. and 67.0 degrees. Apparently a cold front came through (I must have missed it) and the low tonight will be 52. Tomorrow's highs will only be in the mid-80's and the dew point only 50. We should have waited until tomorrow to golf.
