05-30-2005 Nashville Sounds vs. New Orleans Zephyrs

Memorial Day at the BallparkMonday, May 30, Happy Memorial Day! I took a morning walk but not much was happening around the campground. I sat out with my coffee and Bob soon joined me. We took a break for breakfast then I got on the wi-fi and tried to repair AOL Instant Messaging. It has been messed up ever since I updated our Earthlink software. I found a troubleshooting site and think I know the problem but I can't find the Task Panel Option box that I need to check. So basically I wasted two hours. I'll make a fresh start later. Patti got frustrated trying to reach me and chat only to find I would disconnect every time. So she called me on the phone. Nice to get to talk in person!

Bob and I got cleaned up and had a salad around noon. By one o'clock we headed into Nashville for a Triple A baseball game. The Nashville Sounds play New Orleans Zephyrs at 2:00 in Greer Stadium just west of the State Fairgrounds where we went to the Flea Market. So we did not have a hard time finding it. The traffic is light on this holiday weekend with a few more people out on the Interstate. Parking was easy. We got $10.00 seats in Section MM on the upper level dead center behind home plate right where all of the TV stations had their cameras set up. Plus we were in the shade on this 80-degree day.

Guitar Scoreboard at Greer Stadium, Nashville, TNThe Sounds plan to move into a new stadium in downtown Nashville in 2007. This park is an older one but it was very nice. I particularly liked the scoreboard in the shape of a guitar. Right before the game they gave a player an actual guitar for hitting a homer yesterday and hitting the scoreboard. Pretty cool.

Some things in the ballpark were showing their age; like the seats. That's how we met the people in front of us, the guy asked to move to a seat next to Bob that was vacated by somebody earlier. He said his seat was cracked and he either needed to move or quit eating those dollar hot dogs (today is Dollar Hot Dog Day at the ballpark.) Sure enough his seat was cracked completely in half. About ten minutes later he came back from the concession stand with a funnel cake. Bob chuckled and said "Let me get this straight, you gave up the dollar hot dogs and now you've moved to funnel cakes. And that's supposed to be an improvement?" Then one of the gals with his group started talking about all of the concession food they were working their way through and I asked her if she ever had a fried Twinkie.

Ozzie, the mascot, presents Sounds' player with guitar for homerun hit off the guitar-shaped scoreboard! Turns out the guy who moved up next to Bob, and his wife who moved up also to share the funnel cake, were from Texas (Dallas/Ft. Worth.) They recently moved to Tennessee about an hour or so from Nashville. Bob had a good luck charm with him today or something because he caught two nerf baseballs thrown into the stands by the ushers whenever the Sounds scored a run. He gave them to our new friends' little boys. They were excited. Ozzie, the Wildcat, the Sounds mascot signed them as he made his way through the crowd. And it must have been Bob's day because he got a hug from Ozzie too.

We continued our perfect winning streak for all of the minor league games we've gone to in our travels as the Sounds won 3-2. We were out of there by 5:00 and headed out of a deserted downtown route. We stopped at Ruby Tuesday’s east on I-40. I had crab cakes with remoulade sauce and white chicken chili. Bob had a buffalo burger. We had resisted all of the junk food at the ballpark in spite of the three couples and their kids in front of us who were eating everything in sight. We got a paper at Mapco and were home by 6:15. Most of our neighbors are still here tonight. I went up to the office with the laptop to pay a bill before we lose the modem since we plan to leave on Wednesday morning and we have golf on the brain for tomorrow.

I had a brainstorm while on the modem connection and found the Task Panel Option that fixed my Instant Messaging problem. I felt very high-tech. This time I got Patti on the IM and we chatted for a bit. I was back home by 7:00 and read the paper while we watched Antiques Road Show. Now I'm working on my journal late while I have this high-speed connection. I filled up another Web Page so I have to do some rearranging. It's a lot faster on wi-fi. I'll be lost when we leave here on Wednesday without it.

It's 12:00 midnight and 67.7 degrees.
