05-25-2005 2nd Round of Golf at Windtree

Wednesday, May 25, the wireless is still acting up this morning. It is really cool and breezy this morning at 57 degrees. After a nice breakfast we head to Mt. Juliet for our 11:24 tee time at Windtree. We hit a small bucket of balls and get paired with a couple of twenty-something young guys. They are very nice playing partners. Over the course of the round we discover that they work for the NHL team in Nashville. Or at least they did until nine months ago. This has been a stressful year for them. Robert is from Canada where he started with the Hockey League and then he spent some time in Dallas. Robert is the team's Video Coach. Dave grew up in Colorado but moved here about ten months ago from Los Angeles. He likes it here; reminds him more of Colorado. He said he doesn't miss LA. Dave is the team's strength trainer.

We enjoyed our round in spite of slow play that took 4 hours and 45 minutes. We would prefer to walk but they don't allow that here until after five. There was a fivesome in front of us in spite of the fact that the scorecard says "Absolutely no fivesomes will be allowed." One thing we thought was strange was that the GPS systems that were mounted in the carts last time were gone. Robert said (in his adorable Canadian accent) that they didn't work properly so they took them out. We were just here two weeks ago and they were in. But it's true; ours made an awful humming noise and was never registering the correct hole.

Anyway we both played well and I even played consistently on the front and back nines for once. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees with big white puffy clouds. The day got breezier as it wore on but not too bad. I saw a tall bird on stilt legs at one of the ponds catch several fish in the blink of an eye. Afterwards we headed east on Hwy 70 but found nothing to eat until we got all of the way back to Lebanon. We stopped at Cozumel's Grill that we had seen by Kroger's. Bob had Shrimp Enchiladas that he said were very tasty. I had Fish Tacos with a memorable spicy tartar sauce. We were back home by just after five.

The wireless is working so I'm going to try to upload quickly. It's 7:41 p.m. and 64.3 degrees.
