05-22-2005 Big Question of the Day; How Old is Dane?

Sunday, May 22, I was up by 7:15 and went outside after sending a few postcards. It's funny; I thought I would have more time to write in retirement. What a joke. I'm busier than when I worked. It's just a different kind of busy--and much more fun. The young couple next to us spent two and a half hours packing up all of their stuff to leave. Bob and I could not imagine doing all that work to arrive Friday night and leave early Sunday morning. I guess we all do what we have to do. Last night Bob and I were talking about my brother Dane's birthday and we did some powerful calculating to try and figure out how old he is on his birthday today. Time is a funny thing and it seems that people in your life get frozen in time. It took me a few minutes to figure out how old I am! So Dane, your secret is safe with me. Although if I could look like Dane does I would be happy at any age.

Lots of folks are out walking their dogs this morning. It is kind of overcast but not totally. Bob joined me outside but the cool morning breeze and a hunger for breakfast chased us inside. We read our books and lounged most of the morning. My Nokia phone once again shut itself down for no reason. When I looked at it I had a message from my sister. So I called her back and we chatted. She's feeling better and is watching a Tivo-recorded Bill Marr marathon with a friend today.

Around 2:00 Bob and I drove into Lebanon, stopping for a paper at our favorite Shell station. It's Big Paper day and for the first time we realized the Sunday edition is $1.75 here. Neither of us could remember buying a paper last Sunday. So I just looked it up in my journal (Thank the Lord I'm keeping a journal or all of this would go by in a blur and I would recall none of it.) Unfortunately, it was me who bought the paper at the same Shell station last Sunday. In my defense, we had just hiked six miles at Long Hunter State Park and I was starving.

As I just figured out, we ate at New China Buffet last Sunday and we did the same today. I see a trend here. Once again they had their fabulous spread with all of our now favorite specialties. I didn't eat as much as last week since we did nothing in the way of exercise today. Back home we watched Kenny Perry annihilate the field at the Colonial in Ft. Worth. They set record highs in the 100's breaking the previous record of 99 on this day. How quickly we forget how early it gets hot in Texas. We're complaining about 85 and 90 here.

We read the paper and worked the LA and NY Times crosswords. I moved outside to read the rest of the paper where it was cooler. In the afternoon a bunch of new RVers arrived. Bob tried to get on the wi-fi but it was down for some reason. A few hours later I was able to get on. We had leftover pizza from yesterday and now Bob's watching an old Star Wars movie. Gearing up for the new one I guess.

It's 7:30 p.m. and I'm guessing still around 75 degrees. It's supposed to rain tonight or early in the morning. We're hoping it clears out early so we can golf at the new course we found in Murfreesboro.
