The two travel trailers that were caravanning together and had the Boston Terriers were already gone when I got up. And the young couple who arrived in the dark last night has a 12 to 18 month old baby. Yikes! Now I really feel bad for them coming in so late in the rain.
Carla's hubby, Michael, called early around 10:30 and said all went well with Carla this morning. She was in recovery and not awake yet but the doctors were pleased. Michael seemed relieved. I was glad he called right away.
Bob and I got cleaned up and headed south on Hwy 840 West to Franklin, population 42,000. We spied Cedar Crest Golf Course in Murfreesboro at Hwy 266 on the way. We'll have to check it out. We found Harpeth Antique Mall just west of Harpeth River at Alexander Plaza past I-65. They have 80 booths. I went through 6 or 7 boxes of postcards, including some the owner just bought in Brimfield, Mass. He hadn't even gone through them yet so I was glad to get to look at them. I bought about a dozen cards. I also found old sterling silver golf charms that someone had turned into earrings.
By 2:00 we were starving. The lady at Harpeth's suggested the donut shop where they served MeatNThree (Local name for a plate lunch entree with three veges; I've seen this in several diners here.) We passed on the Fried Chicken today and went west on 96 to downtown. We fought our way through another busy traffic circle to Main. A bat turn brought us to a public parking lot behind the Main Street shops. The slots were too small for The Beast to fit easily but Bob managed.
We tried to eat at Sandy's Downtown Grille, and upscale bar & grill, but it closed at 2:00 for lunch. There was a big crowd downtown today. From our window table at McCreary's Irish Pub & Eatery we saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith on the old downtown movie theatre's marquee. Bob had a great looking mushroom burger and I had a lunch salad with honey grilled salmon and raspberry vinaigrette It was 3:00 and we had time for a few more shops. I had a voice mail from my sister herself when I turned the phone back on after lunch. She's home and sounded perky. How great to hear her voice! I'll call her when we get home since I know there's good cell coverage there.
We did 3 or 4 more antique shops at 2nd and Margin. At one Antique Mall Bob found a dozen Titleist PRO-V1 golf balls for $15.00 (Normally $45 to $50/dozen.) The 70-something lady who checked us out asked "What are these anyway? We sure sell a lot of them!" I guess so at that price.
We left there and went just northeast of downtown to Cool Springs Road, which unbeknownst to us is where the Galleria is located. The guy at Harpeth Mall said this county is the 7th richest in the country. How they figure that out, I don't know. All we know is the traffic is a nightmare. We were looking for 2nd Swing, "Specialty Retailer of New and PreSwung Golf Equipment." It was a miracle we found them. This little map on the ad in the paper I had cut out showed the shopping center on the other side of the road. But we thought by the address it should be on the left. So Bob did a bat turn into a huge shopping center parking lot and we drove by row after row of stores, thinking we'd never find one store among the hundreds on these four corners. But Bob saw 545 (our address) on the top of the building we were passing. He said it has to be here somewhere and then he looked up and there it was (2nd Swing). I was reading signs from three stores back by the time he spotted it.
We went in and both hit some clubs into their net. Bob tried some irons but passed on them. I tried a Calloway 9-wood and really liked it. I went out to the truck and got my old Golfsmith 7-wood for a $20.00 trade-in. We left around 6:00 at the height of rush hour, stopping for a paper at a Shell station at I-65 and Hwy 96. We saw $1.93/gallon for gas just east of Franklin. The temperature got to 83 today but it was not nearly as humid after the front came through last night. We were home by 6:30. The RV Park is full of new arrivals for the weekend. A guy in a Fox River travel trailer across the street talked Bob's ear off about all of the changes he made to his rig.
I called Carla. She didn't sound quite as perky as earlier and had some nausea but was pleased with her results. It was nice to chat with her friend, Lisa, who was there with her. Bob and I rested our tired feet and read the paper outside with a frosty Smirnoff. We moved in when it got chilly. Bob hunted for Cedar Crest Golf Course on-line. We'll give it a whirl next week.
It's 9:20 p.m. and 69.7 degrees.
