05-10-2005 Baby Robin Falls from the Nest

Tuesday, May 10, we awoke to the sound of a bird flapping its wings in the bedroom window. A baby robin failed in its first flight. Later we saw him on the ground with hardly a tail at all; just short stubby feathers. Our Florida neighbors from yesterday in the Southwind Class A were gone by 9:30.

As we left to go to the Outlet Mall in Lebanon, the robin was perched on our Hensley Hitch looking very scared. We were glad to see him up off the ground at least. The mother bird was pacing around nearby. At the Mall we browsed the shoe stores looking for new tennies. We both found a pair and capitalized on a big sale. Next stop was lunch at Demo's. We both had the trout on the lunch special. You can count on this place for a good meal. Next we went downtown Lebanon and went through the remaining antique stores. Bob spied a china bobble-head baby golfer for a great price. But with a chipped face it was not a good deal so we left it. We had never seen one like it though.

Moving on to Blockbuster Video to rent two movies and finally to Kroger for groceries and a paper. Back home the little robin was gone and so were all of the RVers except for us and three others. We sat outside with icy Smirnoff's and read the paper. It was really hot today at 85 degrees. Bob saw a turkey hen walking across one of the campground's golf holes just across from our trailer. He got out the binoculars and we watched her for a bit. We were surprised she ventured out of the woods alone and walked a long way across the field. Spirit, the Welsh Corgi, came by on a leash held by the lady who works in the RV Park and lives on-site here. She didn't have Angel, the dachshund, with her this time. But I gave Spirit a belly rub.

It got buggy out so we came in and watched NCIS and House. Then we put "Troy" in the DVD player. It was midnight by the time that thing was over. Brad Pitt looked a lot better at 9 o'clock than he did at midnight!

It's 12:04 a.m. and still 69.1 degrees.
