05-06-2005 Golf at Hunter's Point in Lebanon, TN

Friday, May 6, is sunny and around 50 degrees this morning. The neighbors two slots over swept off the picnic table, put on a tablecloth and had breakfast in the sun. It's too cold for this naturalized Texan. We hit the road around 11:30 for Wind Tree Golf Course in Mt. Juliet. There were two Class A's leaving and two coming in, plus a travel trailer. We had to wait for the Class A to hook up their toad before we could get out of the campground.

This is a great looking golf course as we drove up to the clubhouse but there is not a soul on the course. At the clubhouse we saw carts lined up and sure enough, an afternoon tournament is scheduled. So we took Hwy 70 back to Lebanon and played Hunter's Point in Lebanon. We had scoped this course out on our first day here. Lo and behold they encouraged walking! We got on at 12:45. I had to run back from the first tee box to the parking lot and retrieve our water bottles we had left sitting on the back bumper. It was a good thing I did because it got really hot out there.

The fairways were patchy but nice and the course is very walkable. The greens were hard and fuzzy; a strange combination of slow putting but no ability to hold the approach shots. My Red tees were an odd pairing of 2,568 and 2,958 yards for the front and back respectively; a total of 5,526 yds. and a slope rating of 111. The back was long and seemed like a different course. Bob's Blue tees were also uneven at 2,984 and 3,609 yards for a total of 6,593. His slope was a tame 110. He played both nines consistently but I was Dr. Jeckel-Mrs. Hyde on the front and back.

We saw another one of those oddly colored squirrels with black and white head markings. I need to remember to look them up on the Internet now that I have access again. We were done by 4:30. It was in the upper 70's today and not humid at all but the mile-high blue sky made the sun intense. We made our way back to Demo's in Lebanon after spotting a paper in a gas station on the way. This time I tried the Seafood Pasta Salad and Bob had the Santa Fe Chicken. We both had that fabulous Baked Chicken Soup. A party of 30 from a funeral came in right after us. Thankfully our order was just ahead of them.

Back home we have neighbors surrounding us everywhere. The checkout gal at the restaurant asked if we were in town for "That RV thing." So it must be a big deal around here. Quite a few RVers arrived this evening as we read the paper, watched TV and got cleaned up. I hear a guy jockeying out there now in the dark!

It's 9:30 p.m. and 70 degrees.
