By some miracle, the fivesome of old guys let us play through on the first tee. I was pleased to par the first hole. In fact, I shot 40 on the front nine-a very good score for me. The Yellow Tees were short at 5,075 yds. (easy slope rating of 104) But the White Tees were almost 5,800 yds. so I stuck with the shorter yardage in the wind. Bob played from the Blue Tees at 6,300 yds. (slope rating of 117.) The wind made the whole course play much longer. The fairways were not in very good shape. There was lots of chickweed that made for a rough surface. Bob got some crazy bounces when the spin he imparted on the ball took wild turns as the ball hit clumps of grass when it landed on the rough fairways.
We played quickly but the wind wore us out. We were done by 4:30. I thought we'd be in the Huntsville rush hour traffic and I guess we were but it's nothing like Austin's! We ate at New Moon Buffet & Grill but this time we avoided the buffet and ordered off of the menu. We must have been the first ones to ever order off the menu because it threw the waitress for a loop. I had Seafood Delight with vegetables and Bob had Shrimp & Scallops with vegetables.
I hobbled out of there with a sore knee--too much hiking I guess. We got a paper in front of the restaurant and headed back up Monte Sano on Pratt. Bob got a second wind so we walked through the Japanese Garden behind the campground Country Store. We say Euonymus, Native Azaleas, Japanese Maples, Kousa "Chinese" Dogwood, Red Leaf Plum, Flowering Cherry, Crab Apple, Bamboo, and Weeping Cherry. At the Tea House some late teens, early 20's kids were hanging out. One guy talked a mile a minute about his Aunt Wanda who worked at the camp ground office and how he worked one summer up here pouring the concrete near the RV sites. We decided he might be on something since he had his shirt off in the chilly weather and we exited quickly.
Back home I dug the phone out of my purse and turned it on to find a message from Dorothy. I called her back and she and Ed are going to meet us here in the park tomorrow morning so they can see our home on wheels. Then we'll all go out to lunch. Maybe I'll get that picture of us after all.
We watched CSI and had Tortilla Soup. It's 10:20 p.m. and 50.2 degrees. The high today was 67 but the wind made it feel cooler.
