About Reen and Bev

We’re sisters, born only a year and 4 days apart, and we are just about as close as we can be without being twins. In fact, we were mistaken for twins until we were in our teens because our parents always dressed us in identical outfits.

There were no hand-me-downs for us. No Sirree! In fact, there was nothing that one of us got that the other one didn’t... whether it was dolls, dresses, or punishment. We were much too close to separate, and much too spoiled to share.

Indeed, we had ourselves quite a Barbie collection. Just imagine starting out with two sets of everything and you can appreciate how complete our collection still is (in spite of those wicked trolls that somehow make off with a sock or a slipper when you’re not looking).

The next section reveals why, quite by accident, everything is still in remarkable condition.

About the Barbie Collection

Just about the time we outgrew playing with our Barbies (and wearing those matching outfits), our family moved into a new house. So our Barbie collection was packed away in an old metal footlocker, stuck in the attic of our new home, and forgotten about for over 30 years.

We surely would have given these treasures away to other little friends and family, had anyone found them. Or else, we would have sold them when vintage Barbies first became valuable collectibles. But they stayed safely buried in the old footlocker until just recently, when we discovered them while cleaning out our late parents home.

Since our collection was protected from deterioration for so many years, everything is in magnificent condition. Of course, these dolls have been played with, no question about that. And there’s no box.

We stand in awe of those who saved their Barbie box. Alas, ours went out with the birthday paper they were wrapped in. In fact, we foolishly made sure they were discarded so we could get those cool vinyl cases to keep our Barbie stuff in. (Which, by the way, we have for sale in Accessories.

Even though there’s no box, our Barbies were pampered with tender loving care. We may have been spoiled, but we were taught how to take care of our things. And we loved our Barbies.

By the way, there are no "bite marks" on any of our things. Barbies weren’t for babies; they were for young ladies like us. How shameful, for heaven’s sake! Chew on a Barbie doll. Of all things! Now the dog... well, that was a different story. Our poodle, Pepe, might have made off with some choice delectibles, but don’t worry. You won’t see anything here that fell prey to his canines. We are conscientious about what we sell, but the truth is he usually didn'’t leave us anything to save. chomp! gulp! upchuck! "Girls! What have you been feeding this dog!"

This authentic Barbie collection has been remarkably preserved, thanks to our own youthful devotion... and that old lost footlocker.

About Authentication

We’ve taken great pains to accurately identify and present what’s in our Vintage Barbie collection. The Mattel engravings we found on the doll’s rear end are listed in a link at the bottom of each doll page (see Mattel’s Doll Engraving Information). We had to buy a magnifying glass and everything!

Seeing as how everything was all jumbled up in that footlocker, the Fashion sets were especially challenging to assemble. Think about it... After 30 years we could still identify the dolls, but did that doctors bag belong in Dr. Ken or Barbie Registered Nurse? How about that tutu? Or was it a slip?

We avidly researched Mattel’s official Barbie site to identify what belonged in which Fashion set and created a detail page for each one we matched. On these detail pages we’ve itemized exactly what’s missing from the set and what we’ve still got, including our duplicated pieces (there’s two of us, remember...) For reference, we saved all the Mattel documentation we found, so if you want to see the original for yourself, go to the Fashion Set detail page and click "See Official Mattel Fashion Set" in the lower left corner.

Unfortunately, not every Fashion Set has that Mattel link because their site doesn’t include ALL the vintage Barbie information yet. "Coming soon!" "Check back next month!"..."next quarter"..."Check’s in the mail." We had quite a few leftovers to identify, and didn’t want to wait, so we searched high and low, through tons of commercial and personal Barbie web sites, web rings, books... EBay ...for pictures of our remaining Barbie stuff. Eventually we were able to identify almost everything we had left. Yeah, it was a lot of trouble, but our Barbies deserve an honorable presentation, and we’re proud to say this is IT.

About Purchasing from Us

All our Barbie things are for sale, payable by credit card through Paypal. We’re not a big merchant or anything, but we can accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. To make a purchase, go to the detail page for the item and click the Add to Cart button under the price.1 Paypal opens a new window showing your shopping cart and takes over the purchase process. Click PayPal’s Continue Shopping button to change the focus back to our window and buy more great Barbie things.2

If you just can’t handle PayPal, or it doesn’t work right, or you just don’t trust it, you can request an alternate payment method, and we’ll try to work something else out.

Click the footnote number to go back to the original reference.
1 If you see multiple prices for options or special deals relating to the purchase, choose which one you want by selecting the radio button next to its price before clicking Add to Cart.
2 This separate PayPal shopping cart window remains open until you check out or close it yourself with either File Close or the big bad X. It’s important to note that even if you close the PayPal window, you won’t lose your shopping cart. Pretty cool, huh! But why not leave it open? Well, here’s the problem. If the shopping cart window is already open and your browser is set to prompt you for any security issues, when you add another item to the cart, a modal dialog pops up waiting for your response but never receives focus. If the PayPal window is hidden and you don’t see the security alert, you might think you’re frozen in a wait state. You must manually switch to the PayPal window to check the results and respond to any waiting security dialog boxes. You can work around this irritation by always closing the PayPal cart window after adding an item to it. Or you can adjust your security settings to stop prompting for minor issues like mixed content. Or you can just remember to go over there and look before you panic and reboot...

About Custom Quotes

We’d rather not split up the Fashion sets, preferring to sell them intact (well, wouldn’t you feel the same after going to all that trouble? See About Authentication). You’ll notice that the ‘Fashion Set Duplicates’ are also grouped into Fashion sets and priced as a unit, but if this assortment doesn’t fit your needs, we’ll split them up however you want. Just click on the Custom Quote link you’ll see on the Fashion Set Duplicates detail page, and we’ll bring over the item descriptions to a feedback request where you can pick and choose what you want quoted. We’ll send you a custom quote and purchase instructions. If you don’t use the Custom Quote link on the Fashion Set Duplicates detail page to bring over the descriptions, please make sure to include the Fashion set number and name, and try to stick to the exact wording we used to describe the item (ex. 991 Registered Nurse, Navy cape with red lining) to avoid confusion on our part. As you can see (below), we’re both blonde(ish), so have a heart and make it easy on us.
