Clearwater, Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg area report

Snook on fly
If you are into fly fishing there are several species               available in saltwater.  This medium Snook was fooled with an epoxy fly which imitates a glassminnow.  Redfish and Spotted Seatrout will also take a fly.  We use 8-9wt. rods  with floating line.

Florida Redfish

June and July were good months for Redfish on the grass flats in the Tampa Bay area.  This was one of two double catches of Redfish on this trip.  We were using live scaled sardines for bait.  The Redfish were easily spooked in only two feet of water.  It was important to be quiet on the boat in order to get close enough for a cast.  All the Redfish caught on this trip were released.

My Father and Craig

This nice Redfish was one of four caught this trip.  We were using an artificial jig called the Exude D.A.R.T. made by MisterTwister.  It is my favorite and a very versatile jig.

Tampa Bay Redfish

Fishing on the shallow grass flats in the Dunedin area was very productive in May.  Art released all fish caught on this trip.  Redfish in the 5 - 12 lb. range are the most common in the shallows but can reach lengths of over 35 inches.
