Librarians and leaders for whom I've worked to provide professional quality information services describe my contributions.

Connecticut Association for the Gifted

Barbara,

On behalf of the Connecticut Association for the Gifted, I'd like to
express our thanks for your work in bringing awareness of resources to
parents and teachers of gifted and talented students.

We are especially indebted to you for three very special projects:

1. The bibliography of G/T books in Connecticut public libraries. Many
parents and teachers were not aware of the richness of their local
resources. Your bibliography has helped direct them toward helpful
information.

2. The list of summer opportunities for gifted and talented students.
This is one of our most frequently requested resources through our
website.

3. The list of learning resources and programs in Southeast Connecticut.
Our conference committee is depending on your research in planning a
program for children within our conference for adults.

In all of these projects, your enthusiasm, attention to detail, and
creativity shine through. Many thanks.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Burke, co-president
Connecticut Association for the Gifted

Cheshire Academy Library

Barbara Hampton was instrumental in cataloging a large amount of materials in the Cheshire Academy library in the summer of 2003 (mainly June & July). The library was about to move to a new location so there was an extreme need to finish a large amount of cataloging. There were a large number of books that needed original cataloging as well as many that needed copy cataloging. We also had a very large selection of French language books that needed the to be cataloged (many needing original cataloging). Barbara was the most tenacious cataloger I have work for me. Her desire and ability to find and apply AARC2 and MARC protocols was astounding! She made sure each entry was to the highest standards possible. She also took the time and energy to enhance records with summary notes, content notes and very extensive subject headings.

All the work that Barbara did for us last summer was done on the Athena library software. This product allowed an easy interface for copy cataloging and original cataloging. Barbara became so accustomed to working with the MARC record that very often she did much of her original cataloging in the MARC editor.

It was wonderful to have a mature and trustworthy cataloger at my disposal. Her work last summer was an invaluable contribution to the Cheshire Academy Library.

Capital Community College Library

To whom it may concern,

In her tenure as an intern and volunteer Barbara Hampton has been an invaluable addition to the Technical Services Department at Capital Community College. She has participated and contributed in all facets of the department. She performed copy cataloging under Voyager/Endeavor for recent acquisitions as well as the cataloguing of multi-media materials and realia. Often she would enhance these records with summary, audience, contents, etc. for user convenience; and applied AARC2 and MARC protocols.
In addition she did original cataloguing of very old materials and foreign language materials again enhancing these records for user access. Barbara was perceptive in identifying unique features and conflicts concerning existing holdings (autographed editions, custom editions, special collections, etc.).

Beyond technical services Barbara also worked at the Reference desk where she assisted our diverse clientele in the location and use of the library's many resources. At all times she displayed the ability to work collegially with both student workers and professional staff.
