Advisory Board:

Language Specialist:

(The ADVOCATES train tribes on techniques and activities to retain their languages.) Richard also is an Instructor of Ethnobotany at Kumeyaay Community College , the News Editor for Kumeyaay.com, and he is an Advisor for the California Indian Storytelling Association (CISA). He resides in northern San Diego County. Richard grew up near the Kumeyaay village site of Kosaay (Cosoy), now known as Old Town San Diego. We are pleased that he will lend us some of his strength in the fields of Native language, story-telling and ethnobotany to our endeavors. Hunwut Nganga Pe'naxanish

Elder:

Sal Camarillo - Hopi, 62. Sal is a long time AIM member, a retired activist and former bail enforcement bounty hunter. He currently moderates Northern CA Native Events and News and volunteers on a part time basis as a senior and disability advocate. Sal was born in Two Guns, Arizona and spent his young years on the Hopi Reservation. He now resides in urban Southern California near his children and grandchildren. Sal prides himself on being able to get to the facts straight– a skill learned from his years as a bounty hunter. He brings us the perspective of his home land, his years of activism, and California’s urban Indian culture.

Diva of the Flow:

Cease Wyss - Squamish, Sto:Lo, Hawaiian and Swiss. Cease is the CEO of the small film production company “Cease Fire Productions.” She specializes in Native documentaries with a strong emphasis on ethnobotany. Her other cultural competencies include the canoe and whaling cultures of the Pacific Northwest, and the alternative urban art scene embraced in many parts of Indian Country including her home town (and traditional territory) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Cease has worked in film for many years. Not just producing her own art, but also as a trainer. She brings us the skills of connections and transitions, the bridging of segments of work into flowing comprehensible wholes.

We are are still in the process of confirming Board members and drafting Bios. We hope to introduce the rest of our Advisory Board in the next few months.
