Doctoral Research, UC Santa Barbara, 2000-2007.
An examination and discussion of the American concert mass after the Second Vatican Council. Particular focus on those masses
that addressed issues of genre, or represented the more traditional Latin Mass. Specifically examines masses by Paul Creston,
Lou Harrison and Leonard Bernstein. Advisors: Alejandro Planchart, William F. Prizer, and Derek Katz.
Research Assistant, UC Santa Barbara, 1998-9.
Collected and compiled archival materials on Mildred Hill, a collector of African-American folk songs and correspondent with
Antonin Dvorák. Research used in Michael Beckerman’s New Worlds of Dvorák (W.W. Norton, 2003). Primary research conducted
in Louisville, Kentucky in May 1999. Advisor: Dr. Michael Beckerman, Musicology (NYU)
Undergraduate Research, Scripps College, 1996-8
Produced a senior thesis which investigated the choral works of Gail Kubik with special attention to his cantata “A
Record of Our Time.” Obtained copies of personal documents; majority of research based on interviews with Kubik’s
longtime companion, Marilyn Goetsch.

Special Lecturer, Providence College (Providence, RI), Fall 2008 to Present
Music 226: Music of the United States. A discussion and lecture based course for non-majors and music minors, cross-registered
with American Studies, with an enrollment of twenty-five students. Covered both vernacular and cultivated styles. Text: Richard
Crawford’s America’s Musical Life.
Music 218: Music of the Twentieth Century (current term). A discussion and lecture based course for non-majors and
music minors, focusing on the development of aesthetic and musical trends in the twentieth century. Text: Alex Ross’

Music 102: Music of the Classical & Romantic Periods. A discussion and lecture based course for both majors and
non-majors, with an enrollment of approximately twenty students.

Survey of Western Music History. Lectures met three times a week, with an enrollment of twenty-two students. Students
were non-music majors and music minors.
History of Western Music. The course met twice a week and was the first half of a two-semester history sequence for
music majors. Class was discussion-based and listening-intensive.
Associate, Music Appreciation. UC Santa Barbara, Winter 2001, Spring & Summer 2002.
Instructor of record. Lectured twice a week for broad-based survey course on the history and styles of Western art music.
For Winter and Spring, course enrollment was 350-450 students and consisted of two papers, a midterm and final exam. Course
advisor: Dr. William F. Prizer, Musicology.
Lead Teaching Assistant, Department of Music, UC Santa Barbara, 2001-2003.
Taught and constructed a required course (Fall 2001, 2002) for new teaching assistants in the music department focusing on
pedagogical techniques, issues in assistant teaching, and campus wide academic procedures and policies. Implemented an online
forum for departmental teaching assistants to interact and engage in thoughtful discussions regarding their roles as TAs.
Attended three-day Lead TA Institute offered through the TA Development Program at UCSB.

Led three discussion sections a week, graded two papers, three exams, listening journals and assisted approximately 90 students
