CHURCHILL DOWNS
Home of the Kentucky Derby

As thoroughbred racing fans, we having been visiting all the tracks that are having 'live races' as we travel through the US and Canada. Although there was no live racing at Churchill, we couldn't drive through KY without making a stop to see this famous track. They have a wonderful museum which conducts tours of the facility all year long. We toured the inside - visiting the jockey rooms, the track announcer room, and parts of the clubhouse we would never otherwise see such as 'Millionaire Row" where $1,100 and knowing 'someone' will get you a seat at a table and a buffet on Derby Day, and then the backside where the horses are stabled. Many with the names of well known trainers and their Derby winners listed on the outside. If you love horses and enjoy racing this is a must do when in this part of the country.

An impressive entrance just leads to more at this race track.

A mural with every winning jockey since 1875 thru 2005 graces the clubhouse walls.

We were thrilled to finally see the 'Twin Spires" up close.

The backside tour allowed picture taking of this beautiful ediface.
