PIC

I've done some tinkering with the Microchip PIC microcontrollers. They're really a blast to work with.

PIC Keyer

Here's an iambic keyer for Morse code generation built out of only four parts! All adjustments are done through a Morse-based audible menu system using the paddles as if you were gripping a big sliding selector with really stiff detent.

Plenty of features:

  • Speed and tone pitch independently adjustable.
  • Settings are stored in EEPROM so it'll behave the same next time you use it even if you leave it disconnected for years.
  • Two outputs: tone and logic-level. Couple the tone output to your headphone circuit and the logic output to your transmitter key input.
  • "Practice Mode" generates code on the tone output without keying the transmitter.
  • Minimal power use. Perfect for pocket-sized QRP.

The GNUPIC Archive

I began the GNUPIC project back in 1994, before there were any search engines on the web. Free software development tools for PIC devices existed but were scattered across the Internet. I collected the tools by personal correspondence and organized them in much the same format as they are to this day.

Personal responsibilities eventually left me no time to maintain the archive though, so I've passed the project on to others.
