Loving Memory

Thoughts of John

Tribute

I met John on my first day at work. He was always full of cheer and had kind words for all. I used to tell him that he was the happiest person at Alcatel because of his good nature. Just a few weeks ago, I had asked John to keep an eye pealed for a book on federal contracting requirements; generally dry reading material. We kidded about him not borrowing it or reading it first, etc. It was just basic, friendly banter between co-workers. That's how it was like John - how's it going, how was your weekend, what's new. I'm sure this is memory of John is common to just about everyone here at Alcatel. I'd like his family to know that he was very much appreciated and liked here, especially for the heartfelt gladness he shared with one and all. He had a little Santa Claus in him, 24x7x365. What a rare and special gift! Thank you.

How could you not help but love John Dexter. On your gloomiest day he would come by with his infectious smile and laugh and instantly cheer you up. I do not think I ever saw him down or sad. He would always stop by to say hello find out how you are. It was the highlight of my day to see his smiling face everyday.

John would help you in any way he could, carry something for you - (everyday during my three pregnancies he asked to help carry my briefcase, backpack etc), buy stamps for us out of his money, move equipment, anything he could do for us...)

His generosity was amazing. He always made sure that those less fortunate had a great Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. He spent so much of his time and hard earned money making sure to that. He helped to bring out the goodness in all of us.

Yesterday, was a sad day for all of us at Alcatel. It will never be the same here and we will greatly miss his smiling face and miss hearing that jolly laugh. He was an exceptional person and we are all very lucky to have known him. I am sure he is smiling down on all of us now -- wishing that we may be as happy as he is.

I never saw John in a bad mood. He was always jovial and personable and put me in a better mood every time I saw him. He radiated happiness. Such a rare quality. Such a tragedy he is no longer with us. He will be missed!
