Hadji Martini, what is a Hadji Martini? Also known as "West Pecos
Baggy" or "The Recalcitrant One" by various disreputable sources, Hadji is
rumored to be a part of the notorious Martini clan. Whether this is
actually true or not depends on which press agent you talk to. Nonetheless,
he is the principle accomplice in this vast conspiracy that is
"The Insignificants". His origins apparently come from some place back
East, though the legend goes that he was conjoled to come out West by none
other than Chick McCoy sometime before "The Prohibition" (and we don't mean
the '20s either). He hooked up with SanWich at various local dives,
"El Meridian" and "The Michigan West", but didn't really hit it off until
playing a series of famous gigs at a place appropriately called
"The Wet Shop". From there on it was, well, history. Interesting enough,
many critics place more blame on Hadji for the emergence of
"The Insignicants" than any other, contending that they had SanWich pretty
much under control until Hadji came along. As to these accusations Hadji is
and will probably ever be, vague.
Sadly, after Y2K, Hadji disappeared from site during what has been know under
various names as The Exodus, The Great Purge, The Highland Clearances, blah,
blah, blah. And though Hadji has been replaced by Mingo DeVille (if that is his real name), the original Insignificant sound will never be the same.
