Phoenix Shadow Project

August 6, 2004

Phoenix, AZ

August 6, 1945: the first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima. An area of thirteen square kilometers was reduced to ashes by the blast and 200,000 people died, thousands instantly vaporized leaving behind only their "shadows" etched on pavement and walls.

In rememberance of the past and envisioning a more peaceful future, these "shadows" are painted in rememberance of the civilian victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, hoping nuclear arms will never be used again.
