About Me
R.B. Harris
My interest in art started as a grammar school age child, inspired by a neighbor's sketch of me and subsequently her teaching me to really look at my environment. Art teachers encouraged me throughout my public school education to the point that I chose art as my major in college. I earned my BFA in Painting at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (1964) and continued my studies with a Ford Foundation Scholarship (1966) at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC. I have continued to paint through the years. My college instructors were abstract expressionists for the most part and gave me a sense of freedom and an appreciation of the adventure of the process of painting, the watchfulness and appreciation of how the elements react and impact each other on the canvas. My paintings combine both the really looking and the sense of freedom.

I was born in Hampton, VA and currently live with my husband and paint in Gettysburg, PA. My working career was as a reference librarian.
