History

Photographs from the Records of the National Woman's Party
This collection of photographs from the Records of the National Woman's Party is a part of the Library of Congress American Memory project. The National Woman's Party was the militant arm of the American woman suffrage movement. They were the first to organize protests in front of the White House, and several members were jailed as a result. When some of these members went on a hunger strike in jail, the government force fed the women through feeding tubes inserted through their noses. The women were released eventually without being charged with any offense when newspaper stories regarding the treatment of the women embarrassed the government.

International Center for Research on Women (ICRW)
This non-profit research center was founded in 1976. It is dedicated to improving the lives of women in poverty, advancing equality and human rights, and contributing to broader economic and social well-being. Search a database of articles relating to research on women. The center operates a library with 10,000 volumes available through interlibrary loan.
Global Fund for Women National Women's Law Center
Founded in 1972, the Center works towards protecting and advancing the progress of women and girls in school, at work, and other areas of their lives. This site provides information on legal issues concerning women and offers links to resources.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
This organization was founded in 1915 with Jane Addams as its first president. Addams was the founder of Hull House in Chicago and the first U. S. woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
