Administration on Aging: The Administration is the federal government entity for seniors.
Alzheimer's Association: The site provides information and resources regarding Alzheimer's disease including CareFinder, Senior Housing Finder, Safety Center, and a 24/7 Helpline. Access to the Green-Field Library and Resource Center catalog is provided.
American Association of Retired Persons (AARP): AARP is a nonprofit membership organization addressing the issues of persons over 50.
American Geriatrics Society (AGS): The AGS is an organization of health care professionals. The site is a research respository on careers in geriatrics and tracks legislation impacting the elderly. There is a directory of agencies and links to publications.
American Society on Aging (ASA): The ASA site provides information on mental health, injury prevention, assistive technologies, lifelong learning, motor vehicle safety, and access to publications.
Caring Connections: Caring Connections is a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) with a focus on consumer and community engagement to improve care at the end of life. It is supported by a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The site provides resources regarding end-of-life wishes, grieving, caring for loved ones, talking to your doctor about pain or illness, understanding hospice and palliative care services, paying for long-term care, and caring for a seriously ill child. It also provides information regarding State-specific advance directives.
Centers for Medicaide and Medicare: Access information and databases regarding Medicare, health plans, provider certification, legislation, prescription drug coverage, Medicaid, physician fee schedule, and more.
H.E.L.P.: This website provides information regarding how to avoid scams, preventing elder abuse, reverse mortgages, estate administration, records management for surviving spouses, legal issues, government benefits, end-of-life planning, home care, and much more.
National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs (NANASP): This site provides food and beverage resources and focuses on information regarding poor nutrition among the elderly. It provides nutrition checklists, nutrition warning signs, a nutrition program toolkit, food safety information, and more.
National Council on Aging (NCOA): This nonprofit advocacy group works with organizations throughout the country to help the elderly with identifying and procuring benefits including assistance in paying utility bills and prescription drugs, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
NIH Senior Health: This page features health information for seniors from the National Institutes of Health.
Prescription Drugs: Use this page from the University of Louisville to access government documents regarding the Prescription Drug Benefit and other drug information.
Senior.Net: This non-profit founded in 1986 provides computer technology and access to computers to enhance the lives of seniors. It lists Learning Centers for seniors and sponsors over 600 chat rooms on a variety of subjects. It's easy to see why this site is an award winner.
Sloan Center on Aging and Work at Boston College: The center's studies explore emergent issues related to aging and work and a multi-generational workforce in the 21st century in the state, national and global arenas. Issues briefs, fact sheets, and publications include topics such as creating responsive workplaces for older workers, older worker displacement trends, health insurance costs, bridge jobs, and more.
