- This is the web site for the Microsoft/NBC/Universal online news page.
- NPR
- This is the home page for National Public Radio, the only U. S. broadcast news organization that continues to maintain foreign news bureaus.
- NOW
- The news magazine show created by Bill Moyers offers some of the best investigative journalism regarding current issues on the air. It usually airs on Fridays. Check local PBS listings for the broadcast time in your area. The site includes links on topical issues.
- PBS
- This is the home page for the Public Broadcasting System.
Media Organizations
- Center for Public Integrity
- An organization that combines political science and investigative journalism. This site lists companies that hold defense contracts and information about the contracts. The site also has a database which tracks political contributions from 527 committees and a database to find who owns the media in any American town.
- Cursor
- This is a media watch organization with very left leanings. It has an impressive number of links to media sites and blogs.
- Media Transparency
- This group discloses the money trail fueling grants and foundations. Use its database to search for people who benefit from grants, organizations or individuals that are funding grants, all grants received by a particular recipient, and grants based on their stated purpose. The site also posts articles regarding influences on the media and government.
- Poynter Institute
- This is an institute dedicated to integrity in journalism for journalists.
- Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press
- The committee advocates for freedom of the press and freedom of speech issues. Use this site to access related stories such as those dealing with gag orders, secret dockets, subpoenas filed against journalists, and how homeland security news affects the public's right to know.
- Reporters Without Borders
- This organization works to ensure the right for people to be informed in countries where press freedom is threatened, and supports journalists who are persecuted for doing their job.
- Social Science Research Center
- The Social Science Research Council is an independent, not-for-profit research organization based in New York City. It mobilizes researchers, policy makers, professionals, activists, and other experts from the private and public sectors to develop innovative approaches to issues of critical social importance.
